What is the Volkswagen ID. Cross?

ID. Cross joins the Volkswagen Passenger Cars ID. family as a small electric SUV. It uses MEB+ and a front-mounted electric drive. The name should not be confused with the older I.D. Crozz concept, ID.4, ID.5, Tera or ID. Tiguan.

Production status and Europe/Germany price

The July reveal was the production world premiere, following the 2025 show concept. Volkswagen describes the European market launch as autumn 2026. Ordering initially opened for Life and Style with the 155 kW motor and 52 kWh battery.

€27,995 is the announced entry price for the 85 kW, 37 kWh Trend. As checked on 11 October, the German page still says this trim is not yet offered for sale and is expected to become orderable in mid-October. Available versions are advertised from €36,525 including German VAT, with delivery and registration extra. Equipment and prices differ by country; neither figure is an India price.

Battery and power options

The announced line-up pairs the 37 kWh net LFP battery with 85 or 99 kW, and the 52 kWh net NMC battery with 155 kW. Net capacity means the usable energy quoted by Volkswagen. LFP and NMC describe battery chemistries; chemistry alone does not determine which version suits a buyer. Compare the actual orderable trim and your charging needs.

Forecast WLTP range: what do 316 and 427 km mean?

Volkswagen’s July technical briefing labels approximately 316 km for the smaller pack and up to approximately 427 km for the larger pack forecast WLTP figures. The current German page also lists up to 427 km for the range-favourable Life configuration with the 52 kWh battery. This is a manufacturer laboratory comparison figure, not an AutoHunt real-world range result.

Motorway speed, temperature, cabin heating or cooling, load, wheels and battery condition affect actual range. A maximum WLTP number does not mean every variant or journey will achieve it.

Charging: peak power and stop duration

Volkswagen quotes around 23 minutes from 10–80% for 37 kWh at up to 90 kW DC, and around 24 minutes for 52 kWh at up to 105 kW DC. Both support up to 11 kW AC. These are manufacturer estimates under specified conditions; battery temperature, starting charge and charger capability affect the result.

The larger battery’s higher peak does not automatically make its stop shorter because more energy has to be added. Compare the same charge window and charging curve, rather than peak kW alone.

Dimensions, boot and frunk

The production SUV measures 4,153 mm long, 1,794 mm wide and 1,581 mm high, with a 2,601 mm wheelbase. The boot holds a quoted 475 litres, including storage below the floor. The current July release and German page specify up to 25 litres under the bonnet, which is the rechecked figure used here.

Separate cable storage can keep charging equipment accessible when the boot is full. Families should still check rear-seat space, child-seat fit and boot shape in person; capacity alone cannot answer those questions.

Interior and Innovision infotainment

The cabin combines a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro with a 12.9-inch infotainment display and tactile controls. Innovision is Volkswagen’s infotainment system name. Fabric-covered surfaces feature in the cabin design; massage front seats, premium audio and a panoramic roof are available options depending on specification. AutoHunt has not tested screen response, materials or seat comfort.

Driver assistance, technology and V2L

Optional Connected Travel Assist uses online data and can respond to traffic lights within its operating limits. Area View and Park Assist Pro are among the available parking aids. These assist the driver; availability depends on country, equipment and software, and the driver remains responsible.

Volkswagen confirms vehicle-to-load (V2L) output up to 3.6 kW. The external socket adapter is an optional Volkswagen accessory. Check the supplied equipment and device requirements before relying on V2L for a trip.

What changed from the 2025 concept?

The IAA 2025 study previewed the design and electric SUV layout. Volkswagen’s concept information quoted about 4.16 metres in length, a 450-litre boot and around 420 km WLTP range. Production information now gives 4,153 mm, 475 litres and up to approximately 427 km for the larger battery, plus named trims and prices. Show-car details should not be carried over as guaranteed production equipment.

Is the ID. Cross coming to India?

Volkswagen has not officially confirmed an India launch in the sources verified for this article. No verified India price, booking date, variant list, homologation or warranty announcement is presented here. Converting the European price into rupees would not establish an Indian retail price.

For separate Volkswagen SUV coverage, read our Volkswagen Taigun guide and Volkswagen Tera article. They concern other models and do not establish ID. Cross availability.

Europe/global rivals: useful comparison points

Renault 4 E-Tech and Jeep Avenger Electric are useful European reference points. These are manufacturer claims, not results from a shared road test. UK prices include different grants and cannot be ranked directly against Germany’s ID. Cross price.

Renault advertises the cited UK Renault 4 from £23,445 including a £3,750 grant; Jeep advertises Avenger Electric from £33,599 with a £1,500 grant. These are local price contexts. Charging windows, battery capacity bases and boot measurement methods also differ.

Use published specifications to shortlist, then check actual luggage fit and obtain local quotes.

AutoHunt editorial pros and considerations

  • Promising on paper: compact dimensions, separate cable storage, two battery sizes and short quoted DC stops.
  • Budget check: the €27,995 entry trim was still forthcoming at verification; desired options may raise the purchase price.
  • Ownership check: prioritise charging access, winter or motorway range needs and the local equipment list.
  • Evidence limit: ride, efficiency, software and long-term ownership remain untested by AutoHunt.
